The Nova Scotia Road Trip

Here's a small selection of photos from the Nova Scotia portion of the Road Trip I took with my Dad who spends his summers in Pugwash. We toured the Cabot Trail and stopped at a few memorable spots on the island of Cape Breton. Stay tuned for photos of my birth place (sort of) and my visit with the Smith side of the family in New Brunswick.

Onward to the Cabot Trail!  But first a stop in Baddeck at the Alexander Graham Bell and Flight Museum




First stop on the Cabot Trail was a visit to a fiddling potter

Reportedly the spot where John Cabot landed in Nova Scotia. 
It appears current travellers are still following his route to Canada.

Yesterday I received an early Christmas gift in the form of a humbling experience.   As I walked out the door of a downtown card shop, a person walked past dressed in a rather outlandish outfit.    A pair of cut-off lycra shorts were pulled over a pair of shiny taupe tights.    They wore a rainbow wig whose luscious waves tumbled hallway down the back of a red hoodie.   Atop the wig they sported a pair of short white bunny ears.   A blue suede purse rested on one hip and three large but flat Christmas gift bags dangled from the opposite arm.   A bouquet of festive mylar balloons tied with red curling ribbon and covered in Christmas cookies and holiday wishes floated above them.   I followed behind snapping a photo and rationalizing the invasion by the fact you couldn’t see their face.   We met up at the corner and while we waited for some cars to pass I remembered today’s Random Act of Kindness.   “Start-up a friendly chat”. “Are you Santa’s Christmas bunny?”   I asked

My Favourite Childhood Christmas Book

Every Christmas, for as long as I can remember my heart has been touched by  The Wonderful Window by Beth Vardon,  illustrated by Charlot Byj.    I believe it was written in the 50's and I would likely have received it for Christmas sometime in the 60's.  It's no longer in print so I hope I'm not violating any copyright laws by sharing it with you.    As soon as the patchwork was tacked into place The angel came in with a smile on his face. And both he and Katie got down on their knees, Praying: Lord, could you spare one small miracle -- please? That night, all the people who happened to pass  Saw a wonderful window of glistening glass! And the light from the candles was shining inside  On the angel and Katie -- both beaming with pride. (Just take a look now, while the happy choir sings...You'll see -- even Katie --- has almost got wings!)

Pearls of Wisdom

On Tuesday, my daughter received her diploma from the University of British Columbia. On Wednesday I was moving documents to my new computer when I stumbled upon a verse I'd copied from a card my mom gave Nicole when she graduated from high school.  I thought I'd post it today along with some photos of my Mom.  Today, is the fourth anniversary of her passing.
